New details are emerging about a deadly mystery in Western New York involving Rudy Ray Rockett Sr. and his stepson.

Rockett Sr. was last seen in the Ransomville area of Niagara County at the end of April. He was supposed to be heading to the airport to go back to California and never made it.

His stepson, 29-year-old Gregory Roy, is now charged with second degree murder for killing his stepfather.

Rudy Ray Rockett Jr., the son of the 64-year-old Rockett, tells 7 Eyewitness News that’s he hopes his stepbrother gets a life sentence for murdering his dad.

The son came to Western New York at the time of the disappearance to search for his missing father. A week later, Rockett’s body was found in East Otto.

According to the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office, Rockett’s death was ruled a homicide caused by multiple gunshot wounds.

Sheriff Jim Voutour says it was deputies who responded to a welfare check for the missing man in late April when they spotted something suspicious.

“Deputies were in the driveway talking to Rockett’s wife when Gregory Roy pulled in and that handgun was within reach.”

They also saw blood in the car that Rockett was supposed to be driven to the airport in by Roy.

Rockett’s family is still processing the death of their loved one.

“Once you met my dad, you’ll never forget him.” Roy is set to appear again in Niagara County Court in August.
