The state is looking into further redeveloping downtown Niagara Falls. Wednesday the USA Niagara Development Corporation unanimously passed a proposal selling $27 million of Smokin Joe Anderson's land to the state... 32 properties in all.
Of which include lodging accommodations, vacant lots, parking lots, Smokin Joe's Native Center, the Niagara Falls Adventure Park among other properties. The total coming to 11 acres mostly on first, second and third streets in the Falls.
John Crowell, a tourist from Kalamazoo, Michigan, had spent a night on the Canadian side of the falls before coming to the American side.
"There's a lot more activity going on on the other side than there is here, I'm a little disappointed in what's going on here," Crowell said. “In fact, we were looking for a decent restaurant to eat in and so far we haven’t come across any."
The funding is coming from Gov. Andrew Cuomo's Buffalo Billion II initiative.
All lodging accommodations will continue operations in the immediate future; long term plans have yet to be decided.
