The New York State Attorney General's Office is investigating the Buffalo Police Department for its actions inside public housing and at police traffic check points.

As first reported by the Buffalo News, the investigation centers on a complaint filed by members of Black Lives Matter Buffalo and other community groups in August. The complaint accuses the BPD of unconstitutional policing by targeting people of color in public housing and through traffic checkpoints.

The Buffalo Police Department dismisses these allegations.

In a statement, police spokesman Mike DeGeorge wrote, ""As we said before the complaint was filed, any allegation of discrimination is completely false.  Since that complaint is currently being litigated, any further comment on this matter would be inappropriate at this time. "
