The SPCA wants neighbors to be on the lookout for birds that have fallen from the sky.  The water birds are migrating through Buffalo, and the recent cold weather is causing many of them to fall and become grounded.

In the past two days a total of 17 birds, nine Horned Grebes and eight Common Loons, have been admitted to the SPCA.  They were found on roads and in parking lots.

If you see a bird that has fallen from the sky, wildlife experts say you should try to get it to a body of water.  If the bird doesn't appear to be injured, you can put a blanket over it, put it in a box, and take it to water.  Experts say you should, however, use caution, because a loon's beak is sharp, and can be used as a weapon.  If you have any questions you can call the Wildlife Department at 716-875-7360 ext. 247.
