The eastbound lanes of the Kensington Expressway-- Route 33-- were shut down from the Bailey Avenue exit to the Eggert Road exit early Thursday morning due to a deadly crash. The lanes reopened after about five hours.

Police say a female in her late 20s was driving the wrong way and collided with another vehicle. The collision caused two vehicles to start on fire.

Road crews in the area attempted to assist the two drivers when a third vehicle struck the cars.

The female who was driving the wrong way was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the other vehicle was transported to ECMC and was treated for non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the third vehicle was treated on scene.

The multi-vehicle crash happened around 2:15 a.m. near the Suffolk Street exit of the expressway. Buffalo police responded along with EMTs from American Medical Response.

The lanes reopened at 7:30 a.m.
