Roswell Park Cancer Institute'snewest science center is now open. The Scott Bieler Clinical Sciences Center cost $50.5 million to complete.
More than $30 million in funding came from donations through the "Making Room to Save Lives Campaign" which was organized by Donna Gioia and Scott Bieler.
Donors are recognized inside the building with their names as plaques on the walls.
The center will house the breast oncology and imagery center, chemotherapy and infusion center, and the gynecology center.
It took two years for Roswell's vision to come to fruition but a vision that's been well worth the labor of love.
"This was much different than any other building we built before," said Candace S. Johnson the president & CEO of Roswell Park Cancer Institute. "We had patients influence what we did, the art which was a big part of the design and even the flow of the rooms."
All of the artwork throughout the center was created by different western New York artists.
"We asked for more supportive care for patients and they're calling it a survivorship clinic," said Maryann Salvadore a cancer survivor. "We need more supportive care in our quality of life issues and that's what the survivorship clinic here is supposed to be."
