Sen. Charles Schumer wants to force drone manufacturers to implement geo-fencing technology that would keep the unmanned aircrafts away from airportsand possibly events like sports contests and parades.

The New York Democrat says he plans to unveil an amendment this week to the FAA reauthorization bill. Schumer told The Associated Press on Saturday he expects the amendment would pass with bipartisan support.

The Senator even says drones have been spotted around the Buffalo Niagara International Airport.

Schumer's proposal would require all drones sold or operated in the U.S. to have the geo-fencing technology that would keep them at least two miles from any airport and prevent them from flying above 500 feet.

He said a recent drone crash into an empty set of seats at the U.S. Open exemplifies the dangers of not being able to keep drones out of protected airspace.
