With mosquito season arriving, U.S. Senators Schumer and Gillibrand will team up and call on the U.S. House of Representatives to get serious about combating the spread of the Zika Virus.

The Zika virus has already been contracted by over 1,200 Americans including over 100 here in New York.

Schumer and Gillibrand are demanding that the House pass at least $1.1 billion in emergency Zika funds to help prevent the spread of the virus.

According to the Senators, the federal government still does not have guaranteed resources to stop the spread of Zika this summer. Local health department officials have already been forced to draw on funds for other public health preparation and emergencies.

A press conference will take place at 11:30am on Sunday in NYC. Schumer and Gillibrand will be joined by the American Academy of Pediatrics and City Health Officials.
