According to AMR they have had complications with runners the past two years of the Buffalo Marathon.

"Each of the last two years we had a couple of participants in the race collapse at some point." Thomas Maxian of AMR said.

Maxian says that running a marathon should not be taken lightly, and that many runners use pride over common sense.

"If anybody is confronted with chest pain, shortness of breath, (they should) stop immediately and grab somebody. There will be medical personnel all around the route."

Maxian suggests that anyone racing should prepare by keeping hydrated days before. He also suggests that the decision to run the race should come after weeks of preparation, not from someone who is unprepared.
