Oracle Charter School in Buffalo is set to close at the end of the year.
The move comes after the SUNY Charter Schools Committee denied renewal of its charter in January, citing poor academic performances.
The high school, on Delaware Avenue, is expected to shut for good in June.
Approximately 300 students attend the school.
Oracle board co-chairs Jacqueline Hollins and Dr. Ramone Alexander issued the following statement in response to the decision:
"Seniors will graduate from Oracle as planned. Freshman, sophomores and juniors will be eligible to apply to another Buffalo charter school, an area private school or will be placed in a Buffalo public school starting in September. Oracle's board, teachers and staff, and Buffalo Public Schools' leadership will make every effort to support a smooth transition for each Oracle student.
Oracle and the Buffalo Public Schools will host multiple information sessions for parents in the coming weeks, facilitate tours of Buffalo schools to aid selection, and work closely with each student and family throughout the transition process.
We understand this news is difficult. Our students and their families are our top priority and we will bring to bear all available resources to ensure their emotional well-being and academic success in the transition."
