Renewed call for Erie County to fix Conner Road

Neighbors on Conner Road in Clarence are renewing their call for Erie County to fix their road.

They say the road is constantly flooding because of a badly-constructed drainage system, and they want it replaced. They'd like to see something done before winter, because the flooding causes the road to ice over, causing a safety concern and seriously damaging the roadway.

"We just want a road that's safe for the residents who are taxpayers, and deserve to have this road fixed," explained neighbor Ryan Marchiori, who has lived on the road for years. He pointed to garbage and debris in a ditch in front of one home and said, "This is just one example of what we have going on on our road."

Erie County has agreed that the road needs repairs, but disagrees with the Town of Clarence over just how much they will cost. Erie County legislator Edward Rath III says if everything can't be done at once, at least some of it should be completed before it snows.

"Prioritize at least the drainage and the ditching before the wintertime of 2015-2016. Because if we do not do that, we're going to have icing of this road, we're going to have major flooding, and we're very close to a major catastrophe with the school buses and children and residents that travel along this road," he said.

7 Eyewitness News reached out to Erie County to see if there are any plans to complete work on the road before the winter. We have yet to hear back.
