Reinstein Woods merges technology and nature for week-long learning experience

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has partnered with Friends of Reinstein Woods to create a week-long learning opportunity that combines nature and technology.

For the week of Monday April 2nd through Friday April 6th, five different learning experiences are offered for kids eight and older. This is an opportunity for kids to stay engaged and continue learning while many Western New York Schools are on spring break.

The schedule is:

Nature Tech Adventure: Solar Solutions

Monday, April 2, 1:30 p.m.

Harness the power of the sun to bake, create art, and design buildings. 

Nature Tech Adventure: Nature Apps

Tuesday, April 3, 1:30 p.m.

Explore how you can use your smartphone to enhance your nature experience.

Nature Tech Adventure: Birding

Wednesday, April 4, 1:30 p.m.

Incorporate technology with birding and learn about eBird and the Merlin bird ID app.

Nature Tech Adventure: Geo-Caching Egg Hunt

Thursday, April 5, 1:30 p.m.

Learn how to use a Global Positioning System (GPS) unit and use the handheld GPS units to find hidden eggs in the preserve

Nature Tech Adventure: Wind Power Challenge

Friday, April 6, 1:30 p.m.

Design and test a windmill see how much energy it creates.

The classes are free, but do require registration. You can register by calling the Reinstein Woods Environmental Education Center at (716) 683-5959. The center is located at 93 Honorine Drive in Depew.
