The Ralph Wilson Foundation announced that it's donating $4.2 million to the Roswell Park Cancer Institute.

Hundreds of people gathered at Roswell Park for the announcement, overflowing the lobby.

"Roswell Park is one of the great institutions in Buffalo and Western New York," Mary Wilson, widow of former Bills owner Ralph Wilson Jr. said. "So of course he's (Ralph Wilson) is going to support it."

Mary Wilson said her husband loved Buffalo and the work Roswell Park does. "What Ralph entrusted us with is a great, great honor, so it's emotional."

A plaque dedicated to the foundation now hangs in the Roswell Park lobby. The plaque features Wilson with a former patient, Nick Puleri, who says Roswell saved his life.

This is the foundation's first announced gift of the year, and kicks-off its distribution of a 2015 Transitional Legacy Grant Program.

"The fun begins now," Wilson said. "I really feel that Ralph is looking down."
