Push for Niagara Falls sex offender registry task force

Keyon Lee has a vision.

“My mission is to go national. It's a national issue,” said Lee.

The Buffalo man is taking on the issue of child predators and he has been for the past couple of years. He even wrote a book about the subject. 

“I want people to know that there is information out here. There is help out here,” said Lee.

He is the chairman of the Sex Offender Registry Taskforce in Buffalo and he's hoping to expand.
He wants Niagara Falls to have a similar task force. 

According to City-Data.com, the ratio of neighbors in Buffalo to sex offenders is 407 to 1.
But in Niagara Falls, it's a much smaller 260 to 1.

Council members in Niagara Falls have expressed interest in the idea.

In Buffalo, the taskforce, which includes the Buffalo Police Department, the Board of Education, and the Child Advocacy Center, is working to get an updated sex offender list to every school. It's an effort to keep parents informed and educated.

“Encourage the parents. Talk to your children. Don't be afraid to ask your children the necessary questions,” added Lee. He’s also runs the group No Wound Untreated.

Lee hopes the idea of a sex offender registry task force spreads beyond Niagara Falls and Buffalo. He plans on reaching out to other major cities in Upstate New York.
