The public will have the opportunity to weigh-in this Thursday on two anticipated development projects planned for Buffalo.
The Buffalo Common Council's Legislative Committee will hold a public hearing on April 14 to consider whether to grant landmark status to the Bachelor Apartment building and the former North Park Public Library.
The Buffalo Preservation Board voted to recommend the buildings receive landmark status in January.
The Bachelor building, located at the corner of West Tupper and Franklin Streets is currently owned by Elliott Development Co. The company purchased the site for $1.1 million with the plan of tearing it down as part of redevelopment plan that promises to include a multilevel parking ramp, office and residential space.
When it was built in 1886, the 12-unit apartment building was Buffalo's first apartment building to market only to single men and was named the "Bachelor."
A second building up for landmark consideration is the former North Park Library on Hertel Avenue.
Benderson Development purchased the library building in 2014, and the developers want to turn it into retail space.
The library, located in North Buffalo, was built in 1925 but it was closed in 2008 due to a number of environmental issues.
Landmark status would make it extremely difficult, if not impossible, for the developers to demolish either building.
The five-building Pratt Street Industrial Heritage District on William Street is also up for landmark status and will be included in the public hearing.
Thursday's hearing will take place at Buffalo City Hall in the Common Council Chambers at 2 p.m.
