A volunteer at the Buffalo History Museum is accused of trying to steal and sell artifacts.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office says in the spring of 2013, Daniel Witek, 52, of Buffalo devised a scheme to steal historical writings addressed to Anson Conger Goodyear and sell them to two autograph dealers, one in NYC and the other in New Jersey.

Witek was indicted by a federal grand jury Thursday on three counts of mail fraud and one count of interstate transportation of stolen goods.

Each count of mail fraud carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison, while the other charge carries a maximum of 10 years.
