A Mexican citizen who served time for rape and assault will serve another two years behind bars for illegally reentering the country.
43-year-old Jose Maria Agustin was convicted of Forcible Rape and Assault with a Deadly Weapon in 2009 following an incident that happened in California. Agustin served five years in prison and was deported after his sentence. He was also permanently barred from returning to the United States.
The U.S. Attorney's Office says authorities found out Agustin was back in the United States and working illegally in December of 2015.
Agustin was most recently living in Elba. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement worked with the Genesee County Sheriffs' Office to bring him into custody.
