A grandmother is accused of selling prescription pills out of her home while babysitting her grandchild.

Wanda Winfield, 46, is charged with two counts each of third degree criminal sale and possession of a controlled substance.

The Erie County District Attorney’s Office says the Cheektowaga woman sold the pills out of her Charnwood Avenue home. In addition to allegedly selling pills, law enforcement suspect her of buying other’s pills and selling them out of her home.

Prosecutors say Winfield even sold the pills to a confidential informant while cradling her grandchild.

7 Eyewitness News has learned that Winfield previously worked for Erie County Child Protective Services. She is no longer employed by the Social Services Department, though at this time it is unclear why.

If convicted of the charges, Winfield faces up to 18 years in prison.
