Peoples-Stokes points to "sexual urges" as reason why a woman should replace Schneiderman

New York State Assemblywoman Crystal Peoples-Stokes (D-Buffalo) wants the next New York Attorney General to be a woman - and her reasoning has a lot to do with the way she says women manage their sexual urges compared to men.

"Sometimes men fall into these issues where they're not under control of their sexual urges. I don't think women have the same issues," Peoples-Stokes told 7 Eyewitness News.

Peoples-Stokes has served the 141st Assembly District since 2003.  She has worked in the Legislature through a slew of sex-involved incidents involving New York politicians, including Eliot Spitzer's 2008 prostitution scandal, allegations of sexual harassment against Dennis Gabryszak, and most recently, Eric Schneiderman's physical abuse scandal.  She watched from Albany as her federal counterparts Anthony Weiner and Chris Lee were caught sending lewd photos online.

Peoples-Stokes says a woman would be better suited as New York's top prosecutor because women have the same legal skills as men, without "presenting the same problem."

"I think there's any number of women out there who could do this job and do it well and I'd like to see that we find her," Peoples-Stokes said.

Women in Albany haven't been completely immune to sex scandals.  In 2016, Assemblywoman Angela Wozniak was punished for having a sexual relationship with a staffer, then retaliated against him when he complained about her behavior.
