Students at Pathways Academy 357 are prepared to attend the walk for life in Washington D.C.

"We're going to show, and prove, that we want change," 10th grader Brian O'Steen said, "we're not just going to sit here and let things happen how they are."

The 18 students who will be traveling to D.C. were encouraged to do so after the Marjory Stoneman Douglas shooting in February.

"The fact that these were their peers (showed) this can't happen anymore" Assistant Principle Maria Conrad said.

The students will only be gone from midnight on Friday until the early morning on Sunday, but the travel was not enough to discourage the students and teachers from being a part of history.

"You could end up in textbooks" Conrad said.
