People living in the Fruit Belt community can look forward to some parking relief.

While the area has been booming with the installation of the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus, residents have been complaining that workers and patients in the medical corridor take up most of the parking spaces.

“We want this community to be able to thrive at the same time the growth is happening in the medical corridor,” New York State Assemblywoman Crystal Peoples-Stokes said.

“One of the ways we make sure we do that is by allowing people to be able to go grocery shopping without worrying about finding a place to come home and take your groceries out of the car. To be able to park in front of their homes.”

Authorities announced Friday that they’ve come to an agreement that will create a parking permit system around the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus.

The legislation still needs to be passed by the Assembly and the Senate.
