Parents furious after Newfane cuts bus aides

Parents, students, and bus drivers in Newfane made their voices heard, Tuesday Night. They want their bus aides back.

Thanks to a new contract with Ridge Road Express, Newfane Public School District's busing price tag went up by over 40%.

“As a result of that we had to look at our entire transportation program,” said Newfane Superintendent Michael Baumann.

That meant the district would only use four school bus aide for their elementary school routes compared to having an aide on all 15 routes.

“We also have some contingency in the budget, we could add additional aides. I can't add back the 11 that we cut,” added Baumann.

The cuts had nearly everyone at the school board meeting furious. The big concern for parents is safety. They want supervision for their young kids while they're on the bus.

The district says there will be some supervision, but only buses with the most behavioral or medical problems.
