Police: Olean man driving while intoxicated caused fatal crash

An Olean man has been arrested for driving while intoxicated in an incident that resulted in a fatal car crash. 

On April 4th around 4:19 p.m., the Cattaraugus County Sheriff's Office patrol responded to a two-car vehicle accident on Route 417 in the Town of Carrollton.

After an investigation, officials determined 47-year-old John D. McStraw, Jr. tried to pass a semi-trailer and hit an oncoming car driven by a 48-year-old Killbuck resident. 

The 48-year-old male was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. 

John D. McStraw, Jr. was arrested for vehicular manslaughter, driving while intoxicated, and aggravated unlicensed operation.

He was taken to Town of Carrollton Court for arraignment and placed in Cattaraugus County Jail on $15,000 bail.
