New York State Police have a suspect in custody after a car struck a pedestrian in the Town of Niagara Friday night.

Police say Arthur R. Martin Jr., 53, of Niagara Falls, pulled out of the Wegmans parking lot on Military Road in his 2008 Dodge Ram and struck a 26-year-old pedestrian who was crossing Military Road in the designated crosswalk.

Martin continued down Military Road for 100 yards with the 26-year-old pinned under the vehicle before stopping.

The victim was removed from under the vehicle and transported to ECMC via Mercy Flight for multiple injuries.

Martin failed a sobriety test and was arrested for DWI, he refused a breath test and a court ordered blood test was administered.

Martin was arraigned at Town of Niagara Court and remanded to the Niagara County Jail.

According to police, as of late Saturday morning the victim was in stable condition.

The investigation is still ongoing.
