Tuesday morning Niagara County lawmakers will meet to talk about increasing the minimum wage to $15 an hour. Lawmakers at the meeting are supporting the wage hike and hope the state accepts the proposal by Friday - the state budget deadline.

Joining them Tuesday morning at 9 at the Doris Jones Family Resource Center in Niagara Falls will be minimum wage workers.

They'll share their story about how they survive on the current minimum wage.

According to lawmakers 95% of workers who make less than $15 an hour are older than 20 years old. They also state 66% of them work full time and 33% have children.

"These are our mothers, sisters, and daughters struggling to make ends meet," said Niagara Falls Mayor Paul Dyster. "These depressed wage levels make it difficult for these workers and their families to purchase automobiles and pay market rate rents, let alone purchase a home for themselves."
