April 23rd through the 27th, New York State Police will concentrate their efforts on different traffic safety threats.

They're monitoring speeding in school zones, seat belts and child restraints, cell phone use and texting, 'Operation Safe Stop' and underage drinking and impaired driving.

This statewide, multi-agency teen driving safety campaign comes before prom season and the 100 deadliest days of driving, between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

One of the leading causes of crashes in all drivers and especially teens is distracted driving. Troop A New York State Police have written more than 900 tickets January to April for phone usage while driving. It's been the cause of more than 100 crashes in the same amount of time.

'Operation Safe Stop' focuses on school bus safety. Troopers will be in marked and unmarked vehicles making sure cars are stopping in all lanes for buses picking up students.

If the red lights are showing on a bus, regardless if you're going the same way or coming in the opposite direction of the bus and the number of lanes, you must stop. This includes if there's a median.
