New K9 Officer named after late Niagara County Chief

The Niagara County Sheriff's Department is celebrating the addition of a new officer to the Sheriff's Office Canine Team.

The 14-month old male Belgian Malinois will be known as "Chief" in honor of Chief Craig Harmon who was the Chief of the Niagara County Drug Task force when he passed away in 2004. Chief is currently training with handler Deputy Richard Bull and is expected to be ready to join the force this June. He will work in patrol and narcotics detection.

Chief was purchases using many generous donations and funding from the United States Department of Homeland Security.

The Sheriff's Office held an official naming cermemony last Friday, April 6, on the fourteenth anniversary of Chief Harmon's death. Harmon's immediate family was present at the ceremony.
