A petition with more than 700 signatures by Evans residents requests the town board have four open and public hearings to explore the idea of disbanding the Evans Police Department.
Residents say research shows that by using the Erie County Sheriff's Department for it's police service, the town will save close to 1.5 million dollars a year.
Neighbors with the Evans Taxpayers United group say by the year 2020, Evans Police Officers will make at least $100,000 each.
The Erie County Sheriff's Office says it has provided numbers and statistics to the Town of Evans and the Evans Taxpayers United group.
