Thousands of National Grid customers in the northtowns lost power overnight Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. It was completely restored by 6 a.m.

As of 3:30 a.m., National Grid was reporting almost 19,000 outages. The bulk of those outages were in the Town of Amherst, which had more than 13,000 people without power. The Town of Tonawanda had 4,000 customers without power, and North Tonawanda had 1,700.

Around 5 a.m., power was restored to 4,000 customers in Amherst and the Town of Tonawanda. By 5:30 a.m., power was restored to all customers except for 1,800 in Amherst. Those remaining customers had power by 6 a.m.

National Grid tells Eyewitness News that the outages were due to a faulty transmission line.

The Amherst Police Department tweeted overnight that anyone with an emergency during this outage should call 911.
