More changes for fans at Ralph Wilson Stadium

The Erie County Sheriff’s Office took the time to remind Buffalo Bills fans of old rules at Ralph Wilson Stadium and to introduce some new ones.

Sheriff Tim Howard is warning fans not to misuse handicap passes or parking spaces at the stadium. If you use one at the game, the person who the pass was issued to has to be in the car with you.

Frank Cammarata, executive director for the Erie County Office of the Disabled, said, “We have to be mindful that this is the 25th anniversary of the American Disabilities Act. Please be respectful, please understand that those sports are needed specifically for people with disabilities.”

“To an individual that would make use of these parking areas inappropriately, the fine is very extensive,” warned Sheriff Howard.

A season ticket holder caught using a fake handicap pass could have their tickets revoked.

Another change to be mindful of is the ban of all tobacco-related products, including (but not limited to) lighters, matches, cigarettes and even E-cigarettes. These items will not be allowed in the stadium and have to be taken out of pockets and cigarettes before you’re allowed in.

And new this year are NFL-recommended, walk-through metal detectors at Gate 3.

Andy Major, vice president of operations and guest experience for the Bills, explained, “It’ll detect something right away. It’ll tell you where it is on the person, then the fan goes through a secondary screen if the unit beeps.”

But it’s not like the airport. Keep your shoes and belt on, just place items like your phone and wallet in the bin.

The detectors will save about eight seconds per person during the security process. That may not seem like a lot, but it means the line will move much quicker.

They will be at every gate by next year.
