The Memorial Day Parade in Blasdell has been canceled because of potholes on Lake Avenue.

According to the village administrator, Blasdell mayor Rob Hefner was concerned about veterans and boy scouts marching on a road that is in bad condition. Mayor Hefner announced the decision to cancel the Memorial Day Parade back in April.

The decision to cancel the parade was met with some anger from neighbors.

"It's upsetting to see them cancel an event that really brings the community together" Kane Buckely, a neighbor who lives along Lake Ave said.

The condition of the road was nothing new for Blasdell. The mayor tells us that they tried to get the county to address the condition of Lake Avenue multiple times. County crews were out patching up Lake Ave. Monday afternoon. The road is scheduled for a complete re-build in 2019.

Blasdell will still have a Memorial Day service on Sunday at 1 p.m. The service will take place at the former Blasdell Library on Salisbury and Madison avenues.
