Man charged after 4-year-old boy accidentally shoots himself

Dunkirk police have arrested a man in connection to an incident at his home in which a 4-year-old boy accidentally shot himself.

Officers initially reportedthe boy was playing with a gunin 27-year-old Angel Lopez-Tirado's South Roberts Road home on July 25, 2016. Following an investigation, officers arrested Lopez-Tirado on Monday, August 15. He was charged with misdemeanor reckless endangerment, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon. Both weapon charges are felonies.

The boy was treated at Brooks Memorial Hospital and transported to Women and Children's Hospital of Buffalo following the incident. His injuries were not life threatening.

The gun involved in the incident was confiscated by the Dunkirk Police Department and is being held in evidence. Lopez-Tirado was arraigned Wednesday morning.
