A Florida man has admitted to installing credit card skimmers at various gas stations in Western New York this summer.

The Erie County District Attorney's Office say s 36-year-old Giraldo Cardenas of Homestead, Florida pleaded guilty to one count of Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument int he Second Degree and one count of Scheme to Defraud in the First Degree.

Cardenas admitted he helped install those credit card skimmers at gas pumps in Amherst, Lancaster, and the Town of Tonawanda between July 14 and July 25, 2018.

Credit card skimmers are devices that attach to a card reader and obtain credit and debit card information from victims. Cardenas then used that information to create fake debit cards that he then used to make purchases at stores in Western New York.

Cardenas faces a maximum of 7 years in prison.
