The Niagara County Department of Health is alerting several communities about a planned water service interruption scheduled for Tuesday, April 17.
People living in the Towns of Royalton, Ridgeway, Somerset, Hartland, Lockport, Newfane, Shelby and the Villages of Barker, Middleport and Medina will be affected.
The Health Department says crews will shut down water service to install a new valve on the transmission main. This means you may experience low water pressure and cloudy or milky-looking water once the water pressure is restored.
If your water appears milky, the Health Department says you should flush all of the taps in your home for a minimum of five minutes or until the water runs clear. It's best to start with your bathtub since it draws a large amount of water and is usually not screened.
The Health Department wants to reassure the community that the water, even when it appears cloudy or milky, is safe to drink. The different appearance is caused by air bubbles in the water and it is completely harmless.
