PEMBROKE, N.Y. (WKBW) — Pembroke High School is riding a wave of pride.

The girls' basketball team brought in more than $29,000 for its annual Shoot for a Cure event.

It was standing room only inside the gym. A sea of pink filled the room.

This is the eighth year for this fundraiser.

Even the away team, Notre Dame Academy, pitched in about $1,000 for cancer research at Roswell Park.

"My sister actually started this game in 2011 for Tony Funke. Seeing how small it really started out, then seeing it now, it's amazing. It really is," said junior Mackenna Johnson.

Over the last eight years, the Shoot for a Cure event has raised more than $100,000.
