BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — New Era Cap's Derby plant will remain open longer than anticipated, but the majority of the plants 216 employees will still lose their jobs before the end of the month.

The plant was set to close March 29, but an updated filing with the State Labor Department shows that the plant will now close on June 7, with 24 employees to be laid off between May 24 and June 7.

New Era announced plans to close the Derby plant in November as part of the company's larger plan to move away from owning and operating manufacturing plants. The Derby plant is the company's only manufacturing plant in the United States.

The company reached an agreement with the employee union, Communication Workers of America, last month. The agreement included a comprehensive severance benefits package for workers.
