BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Get ready, Buffalo. A group of Mean Girls, disciples and dancing waiters will soon step into the spotlight at Shea's Performing Arts Center.

Shea's raised the curtain Tuesday night on its M&T Bank 2019-2020 Broadway Series, which features seven shows instead of the usual six. The blockbuster season will kick off September 21st with the new musical 'Mean Girls.' Featuring a book by Tina Fey - who also appeared in the 2004 hit movie - 'Mean Girls' will make its national tour debut in Buffalo and run through September 28th. It marks the fourth consecutive year a touring musical has launched at Shea's, a distinction that brings with it tens of thousands of dollars in extra revenue for the area through additional hotel rooms and restaurant meals.

'Come from Away' arrives October 15th. The new musical, which is still playing to a sold-out theatre on Broadway two years after opening, tells the true story of how the people of a small town in Newfoundland, Canada came to comfort thousands of passengers stranded following the September 11th attacks.

The new season also includes the 50th Anniversary Tour of 'Jesus Christ Superstar,' a revival of 'Hello, Dolly!' 'The Band's Visit,' and 'Anastasia.' 'Jimmy Buffett's Escape to Margaritaville,' which had a short but party-filled run on Broadway this past season, caps off the season in June.

The Special Engagement lineup for the 2019-2020 season includes the return of the audience favorite 'Jersey Boys,' and a new production of 'Les Miserables.' And just in time for the holiday season, 'Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer: The Musical' will come prancing into town.

"Thanks to our board, volunteers, donors, staff, and the people of Western New York, Shea's remains the jewel in the crown of the Queen City," said Shea's President Michael Murphy. "We're dedicated to providing our community an unforgettable experience every time they walk into this beautiful theatre, and the upcoming Broadway series exemplifies that commitment."

"We've become a favorite destination of touring productions," said Shea's Broadway Partner-Producer Albert Nocciolino. "We should take pride in this reputation."
