NIAGARA COUNTY, N.Y. (WKBW) — The Niagara County SPCA says the officer who helped rescue an abused puppy will be adopting the puppy.

Officials say 6-month-old Hemi was seized from a home after an anonymous caller stated there were two dogs in a backyard that looked to be in rough condition.

One of the dogs, Foreign, couldn't put pressure on its leg. The other dog, Hemi, was emaciated, dehydrated and could hardly walk. Officials said Hemi's back leg was so swollen and bruised that the officer had to carry him.

"It’s heartbreaking to think that Hemi is just a baby and this terrible treatment is all he knows, but we assure you that his life will be better from here on out. Please pray for Hemi – and his friend – for a speedy recovery," a release stated.

A GoFundMe was started by the Niagara County SPCA to help with treatments for Hemi and Foreign.

The Niagara County SPCA announced the officer who helped rescue Hemi would be adopting him. Officials also said he is doing much better and expected to make a full recovery.

Foreign is doing well and was brought to the SPCA in better condition than Hemi. She will be adopted by a local sheriff when she is medically cleared.
