An Erie County lawmaker faces a political newcomer in Tuesday's special election for the New York State Assembly's 142nd district.

Democrat Patrick Burke, who represents district seven, is running against Republican Erik Bohen, a teacher for Buffalo Public Schools.

The winner will take the seat left vacant by Michael Kearns, who was elected Erie County Clerk last November.

Burke is also running on the Working Families and Reform Party lines. Bohen has the endorsement of the GOP, Conservative and Independent parties.

The 142nd district consists of South Buffalo, Lackawanna, Orchard Park and West Seneca.
