More than 120 companies packed the Buffalo-Niagara Convention Center April 19 looking to fill more than 3,200 positions.

A big issue many local companies have in hiring, though, is the gap between prospective employees' training and the level of training the companies require for skill positions. One local manufacturing company said the level of training students receive hasn't been up to par for years, and may not be for years to come.

Another issue is prospective employees failing drug tests.

"It's across the board," said Colleen Bauer, human resources manager at DIMAR Manufacturing. "It's not just at DIMAR, it's not just in manufacturing; it's in healthcare, it's in human resources... in every industry it's challenging."

Bauer added most local companies are looking to invest in local people for the long-term.
