The names of the drivers involved in a deadly crashed on I-90 at Rt. 33 (Exit 51) that left a tractor trailer on top of the concrete barrier have been released.

State Police say Jason Askew, 34, of Cheektowaga was attempting to merge from the Cleveland Drive on ramp when he was cut off by a vehicle that didn't end up being involved in the accident.

Askew lost control of his vehicle and struck a vehicle driven by Louis Martin, 56, of Niagara Falls. Martin's vehicle then hit the tractor trailer, which was driven by Timothy Brown, 45, of Buffalo.

Martin was pronounced dead at the scene. Askew was taken to ECMC for non-life threatening injuries. Brown was unhurt.

Anyone that observed the collision is asked to call Investigator Richard Kline at 716-759-8638.

The Thruway was down to one lane in both directions as a result with the left lanes closed on both the eastbound and westbound lanes. That backed up traffic for miles in both directions on I-90, but also caused havoc on other highways.

That area of the Thruway is where I-290 joins I-90 and where Rt. 33 joins I-90. It was a long commute home for many who were caught in a rush hour nightmare for hours Thursday night.

The crash happened at 3 p.m. but it took hours to clear the scene because State Police needed to reconstruct the accident.

The cause is still under investigation.
