Job market promising for recent college grads

Kimberly Wiess worked hard to get where she is today. “I decided I wanted to do nursing so I transferred to Trocaire College where I got a two-year associates degree in nursing,” the 22-year-old explained. As did Jenna Winiewicz. Both want to be nurses. “It's a natural calling, I think. I'm a caring person. I want to help people, and this is the best way to do it,” Wiess said.

So far though, neither have landed a job. “I'm hoping that once I take my boards and I get certified, I can place a job somewhere, Wiess added. “I really like Buffalo. I like the city,” said Winiewicz. Since Buffalo is home, both Kimberly and Jenna said they'd like to land a job at a hospital in the area. “I would love to work with children. However, it's hard to get in a Children's Hospital without your Bachelor's degree,” Wiess explained.

Maggie Shea heads Staff Buffalo. It’s an agency that connects employers with job seekers. She believes that recent college graduates, like Kimberly and Jenna shouldn't have a problem landing a job. “It is absolutely a great time to not only move back to Buffalo, but to get started right out of college.”

Both Kimberly and Jenna said they aren't worried about getting an offer. They believe they have plenty of options. “It doesn't have to be a hospital. It could be a doctor's office.”
