An 84-year-old Hamburg woman just got the surprise of a lifetime. Her son got tickets to see Pope Francis in New York City.

For Ruth Simonick, seeing the Pope is a dream come true.  “It’s the greatest thing on Earth; everyone wants to see the Pope,” she said.

Her son Ed says this opportunity has been a long time in the making. “My mother has been a devoted Catholic her entire life. We went to Rome in 2013. The Pope was not saying Mass and not going going to be back until we left."

That is when the quest for tickets began. Now Mrs. Simonick said this experience is life changing.

“I just can't explain it. There is something about him that opened everybody's heart. Maybe everything will be better. We will have more compassion and peace. He's just a peoples’ Pope,” Mrs. Simonick said.

Mrs. Simonick has one more reason seeing the Pope is so special to her. “It's my husband name, Francis. There's a connection. He was a good man and the Pope has to be as good as they say. He followed the best, St. Francis of Assisi."

Both Ed and his mother will be heading to the Big Apple on Thursday and will be there for the big day on Friday to see Pope Francis in Central Park.

“I can't believe it. It's a miracle,” Mrs. Simonick said.
