Gowanda touts success of medicaton drop boxes

The Gowanda Police Department is celebrating the success of its prescription drug drop box program.

On its facebook page, the police department said it has collected seven trash bags worth of unused prescription medication at its two community drop boxes, all in the past two months.

The drugs were picked up Wednesday for proper disposal.

The police department said the drop boxes are helping to fight the rising opioid crisis by keeping unused prescription medication off the streets.

The Gowanda Police Department has installed two community drop box stations in the Village.

One unit was paid for with a grant from CVS. It is located at Healthy Community Alliance, Academy Place, 1 School Street, Gowanda. It is open to the public Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The second unit is located in the Village Hall, 27 E Main St, Gowanda. It is open during regular business hours. At both locations, residents can drop off medication with no questions asked.
