Gov Cuomo, Cynthia Nixon duke it out in only debate

After weeks of speculation NY Governor Andrew Cuomo and Democratic challenger Cynthia Nixon met for the only Gubernatorial debate prior to Primary Day on September 13th. 

Right from the start, Nixon and Cuomo looked to separate themselves. Cuomo, let his experience speak for itself. 

"It's about management," the two-term Governor said, "This is real life. (As) Governor of New York you're running a $170 Billion budget."

Nixon, on the other hand, wanted to use her status as a political outsider to her advantage. 

"Experience doesn't mean that much if you're not actually good at governing" the former actress said.

Often during the debate, Nixon and Cuomo were caught interrupting each other and trying to get the upper hand. 

Governor Cuomo, who often referred to President Trump in his responses, even faced questions about his dedication to the job with the possibility for a 2020 Presidential run. 

"Do you promise to serve four more years as Governor if reelected?" asked the moderator of the debate, "The only caveat is if God strikes me dead. Otherwise, I will serve four more years as Governor" Governor Cuomo replied. 

In between the sparring and presidential questions Nixon and Cuomo hit on issues such as housing, medical marijuana, and racial injustice in the criminal justice system. 

The winner of the primary will face (R) Marc Molinaro in the general election in November. To note, the last time a non-democrat was Governor was George Pataki in 2006.
