Fredonia landlords are fed up, but not with their tenants. They’re frustrated with their village board.
The village is proposing a host of new landlord and tenant requirements in the college town.

Among them, the creation of a list of tenants that would be available to Fredonia police. The village also wants to require landlords to post their name and contact information somewhere on the property.

“We don't want the village to become a place where everything goes,” said Village Mayor Athanasia Landis at the Fredonia Village Board meeting, Monday.

The mayor says the proposed laws would improve the quality of life in the village and help Police when large parties are broken up, and no one claims to live at the property.

Some landlords say collecting this information is unconstitutional. The village lawyer says it's perfectly legal.

With so much opposition to the proposed changes, the village board opted to table the vote until another time.
