At least four firefighters were taken to the hospital after a fire in South Buffalo, Thursday.

The extent of their injuries are unknown at this time.

The initial 911 call came in just before 9 a.m. at 396 Abbott Road, just minutes after Charles Davis Sr. was working in front of the house.

"I was walking and I just left 396 Abbott." Davis said. "I'm a meter reader with the City of Buffalo. I went across the street, went down the street then turned around and (saw) the fire trucks and everything. It just popped. It just exploded.....fire all over the place."

Davis said he is counting his blessings that he wasn't hurt but he is not the only one.

"I was laying in the house and I heard my dad screaming, 'Ray's house is on fire!'" Christina Goepel, who lives next door, said. "I flew out of bed and I came outside. My mom was telling him (dad) to call 911 but he was getting our cars out of the driveway so I did (called)."

When crews arrived on the scene, they had to take a defensive approach due to the size and the temperature of the flames. No one was inside the home when the fire started.

Crews estimate about $90,000 in damage to the building where the fire started and $5,000 to the homes on both sides.
