A former Village of Hamburg employee has admitted to stealing more than $150,000 in recreation fees and altering public records.

According to the offices of the State Comptroller and Erie County District Attorney, 54-year-old Joanne Erickson pleaded guilty to charges of grand larceny, falsifying business records and official misconduct after prosecutors say she stole cash payments that were meant to fund an afterschool program, a children’s summer program and recreation hall rental fees.

“This defendant not only stole from taxpayers, but stole money intended to support programs for children in the Village of Hamburg. I want to thank our partners in the State Comptroller’s Office for conducting this audit, which allowed us to prosecute this individual,” said DA John Flynn.

According to the Comptroller's Office, Erickson was terminated from her position as a recreation attendant by the village in April 2018.

Erickson faces 15 years in prison when she is sentenced on January 9.
