A former Buffalo nurse has been sentenced for stealing pain medications.

Leyla Samadi was convicted of illegally obtaining controlled substances while working at Sisters of Charity Hospital in Buffalo between November of 2014 and January 2015.

Samadi obtained narcotics from the hospital's Pyxis machine, injected herself instead of the patient she requested it for, then filled the empty vial with saline solution. She returned the fraudulent vials to the machine, claiming she had the wrong patient or medication.

The scheme exposed patients who really needed pain medication to nothing more potent than salt water.

She received 5 years probation during Wednesday's proceeding in U.S. District Court in Buffalo.
