The Botanist will become Buffalo's first medical marijuana dispensary when it hopes to open after a final NYS inspection on November 12.

"This kind of opportunity is important to us to make a difference in peoples' lives" Acreage COO Robert Daino said.

The facility, which is on 192 Seneca Street, is a strictly medical facility. That means that you must qualify for medical marijuana to receive it.

The Botanist will bring 6-10 jobs into Western New York. The facility hopes to create a comfortable experience to patients who are seeking the help of cannabis to cure their medical issues.

"We want to make sure that all of the patients feel completely cared for and considered throughout the entire process" Daino said.

With the opening approaching, it creates an interesting dynamic in terms of marijuana legality throughout the state. After Democrats took the State Senate in the 2018 election, there seems to be a path for legalizaton.

"I think we are going to be seeing an accelerated timeframe for the legalization of recreational, or adult-use marijuana in New York State" Steve Przybyla of DENT Institute said.

According to Przybyla, he sees the potential for legalization by 2020.
